This afternoon I saw a medium sized bird (smaller than a robin)with a beige/pale gray body and black wings. It was sitting on the fence rail and taking short flights around the same area. It landed in the roadway but flew off again to land on the rail. It appeared 'out of its element'. I have never seen this type of bird before and checked my Peterson Field Guide (Eastern Birds)but could not find it. The closest was the 'Townend's Solitaire', but I know it wasn't it. If you could help I would appreciate it. Thanks for your time. Jim Cuvelier

Sighting: Gray Catbird
Date: February 4/06
Location: Our Yard

Comments

Since early December we have been feeding a GRAY CATBIRD and a ROBIN regularly. Hubby chops up apples small for them and they also seem to love blueberries. It's February now, so we're really hoping the morsels we put out for them will sustain them the rest of the winter. They come to the feeder MANY times a day and they seem to be very healthy. The two birds seem to have become Buddies and have become a great joy for us to watch. Isn't Nature Wonderful!!! :-)))
