So what does a bird know about brewing? Well, nothing.
Fortunately, Guysborough is home to the oldest commercial brewing operation in Atlantic Canada. This centuries old brewing tradition began in 1659 with the enterprising Acadian, Nicholas Denys and continues on today in the Rare Bird with the Authentic Seacoast™ Brewing Company.
"Inside, it's no less impressive; it's a spacious pub with a modern, shiny, copper brewery"
– Progress Magazine
Our commitment to Atlantic Canada's oldest brewer means we make beer the authentic seacoast way – handcrafted in small batches using no preservatives. Each Authentic Seacoast™ Ale is made with pure artesian well water, freshly ground hops, and Canadian-grown malted barley to capture the history, flavour and pioneering spirit of Chedabucto Bay. Unfiltered for fuller flavour, each Authentic Seacoast™ Ale is the perfect accompaniment to the fresh sea air and the friendly people who live on our shores.

People often ask what makes our Authentic Seacoast™ Ales taste so darn good – we believe it's the water. We use only pure, unchlorinated, deep artesian well water, which the locals believe is the secret to the longevity of the people living in the communities around Chedabucto Bay. As our brewmaster likes to say – live long, drink beer!
Now we can't promise that drinking an Authentic Seacoast Ale will help you live to be a 100, but there's no harm in trying!

As good East Coasters, we love to tell a story, so be sure to book a group tour of the Authentic Seacoast Brewing Company. We'll give you an insider's look at the process of crafting a premium Nova Scotia ale. To book your group tour of the brewery, call the friendly folks at the Rare Bird Pub at 902.533.2128.
