So what does a bird know about brewing? Well, nothing.
Fortunately, Guysborough is home to the oldest commercial brewing operation in Atlantic Canada. This centuries old brewing tradition began in 1659 with the enterprising Acadian, Nicholas Denys and continues on today in the Rare Bird with the Chedabucto Bay Brewing Company.
"Inside, it’s no less impressive; it’s a spacious pub with a modern, shiny, copper brewery”
– Progress Magazine
The Chedaucto Bay Brewing Company makes three Authentic Seacoast™ Ales – Willy's Highland Ale, Rare Bird Ale, and Beachcomber Blonde. Each is brewed to the exact specifications of the Bavarian Purity Act of 1516 and available on tap only at the Rare Bird Pub. These handcrafted ales use only pure water and freshly ground hops, malt and barley to create exceptional ales that give you yet another great reason to make Guysborough your Nova Scotia seaside getaway.

People often ask what makes our Authentic Seacoast™ Ales taste so darn good – we believe it’s the water. We use only pure, unchlorinated, deep artesian well water, which the locals believe is the secret to the longevity of the people living in the communities around Chedabucto Bay. As our brewmaster likes to say – live long, drink beer!
Now we can’t promise that drinking a Chedabucto Bay ale will help you live to be a 100, but there’s no harm in trying!

As good East Coasters, we love to tell a story, so be sure to book a group tour of the Chedabucto Bay Brewing Company. We’ll give you an insider's look at the process of crafting a premium Nova Scotia ale. To book your group tour of the brewery, call the friendly folks at the Rare Bird Pub at 902.533.2078.
